Sumitomo Chemical is pleased to announce our collaboration with the Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC). IVCC is a Product Development Partnership (PDP) established as a not for profit company and registered charity to overcome the barriers to innovation in the development of new insecticides for public health vector control. Sumitomo have initiated a development project with IVCC on a novel long lasting bed net containing a combination of active ingredients that is designed to work against pyrethroid resistant malaria transmitting insects. It is anticipated that this product, known as Olyset® Duo, will be available within a few years providing a valuable new tool to combat the growing threat of insecticide resistance.

In addition, we began to search for novel insecticide chemistry within our chemical libraries that may have potential in the future for controlling resistant insect disease vectors. These activities will help provide solutions in the near and longer term and engage us in the development of innovative products and novel chemistry for public health well beyond the year 2020. Professor Janet Hemingway CEO of the IVCC said “ We are delighted to have Sumitomo as a partner, they are a major innovator in bed net technology with demonstrated long-term commitment to this market”.

Over the last decade, with nearly 200 million Olyset Nets delivered to protect vulnerable populations from malaria, Olyset has proven its durability and efficacy in the field. “Sumitomo Chemical is proud of the impact that our pioneering Olyset Net has made in the world. Bed nets cannot entirely stop malaria, but it is clear that this simple, durable tool has saved many, many lives in the last ten years,” said Ray Nishimoto, Managing Executive Officer, Health and Crop Sciences Sector, Sumitomo Chemical. “Looking at the decades ahead, we remain firmly committed to remaining competitive and innovative in the global vector control market, and to providing the tools for a malaria-free world.
